Kano Okays N38.6bn For Education, Roads, Security, Others

The Kano State Executive Council has approved the sum of N38.69 billion for the implementation of critical projects and policy commitments across major sectors, reinforcing the administration’s drive for inclusive development and improved service delivery.

Briefing journalists on the outcome of the Council’s 35th meeting held on December 18, 2025, the Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, said the session was presided over by Governor Abba Yusuf at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.

Waiya said a significant portion of the approvals was directed at the education sector, where Council approved over N1.69 billion for the settlement of outstanding feeding obligations to boarding school suppliers.

Other approvals include N369.96 million for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri; N375 million for the procurement of 50,000 crate bags for primary and secondary school students; and N1.33 billion for the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

In the works and infrastructure sector, the Council approved the re-award of the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road project at N16.29 billion and the completion of a 5-kilometre dualised road in Karaye Local Government Area at N4.42 billion.

Additional approvals covered rehabilitation works on key metropolitan roads and the construction of a Conference Centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City for N916.15 million.

To strengthen internal security in the state, the Council approved N483.75 million for the procurement of 300 motorcycles for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Corps.

It directed that the corps be integrated into the state service on a permanent and pensionable basis.

The water sector received approvals for pipeline expansion, community water projects, diesel supply, and energy bills.

Additionally, N318.16 million was approved for the renovation and equipping of the Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in the Bichi Local Government Area.

Council further approved N6.81 billion for compensation of 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara and endorsed policy measures on anti-corruption capacity building, settlement of contractors’ certificates, review of the qualifying examination policy and the implementation of strategies to eradicate street begging across the state.
