Medical director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Kaduna, Prof. Aishatu Yusha’u Armiya’u, has offered scholarship to a staff member to further his education as reward for excellence and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the enabling environment in the hospital.

Receiving the award, Mr Abednego Musa, who works in the Administrative Department, said his schedule of duty in the office, is receiving visitors.

Expressing his feelings, Musa said “The only person that will understand how I feel right now is somebody that is in my position, somebody that doesn’t have anybody like me. So in this place, I want to say thank you very much for what our medical director has been doing for us and especially people like us that doesn’t have anybody.”

” I am very happy because in my life, I never thought of for once I would go back to school due to the economic situation and due to the way our country has turned into, she has put hope in me by giving me the chance and promising me that once I finish my probation, I will further my education.

And this is not the first time she is doing this. She has been doing it for many people. And I believe, as she said it, that is how she is going to complete it. So thank you very much. And I call for my fellow workers that they should work so hard as a team” he stressed.

Earlier, the medical director, said, “Annually from 2023, we celebrate the end of year award and dinner night.

And this is just to ensure that we reward hard work, we reward dedication, we reward commitment. These awards that we do is in line with public service rule, so therefore it has become a norm. This is the third award we have done. And between last year and this year, you could see drastic changes and movements towards excellence.”

Also speaking, Professor Chris Pwaja, maintained that”this hospital is the best and a model for every other hospital in Nigeria, it is fully funded by the Federal Government but the Medical Director is driving a leadership agenda that has a private sector focus where partnership with actors, institutions is very important.

She has invested a lot of time and energy to ensure she gets the best brains and she has been recruiting from the best, she has been giving her staff the enabling environment to work hard, she has been providing them with all the shoulders a leader should give, her credibility, integrity and pedigree as a professional psychiatrist, a professor by all standards not just someone that has been in the classroom but she has been able to blend theory and practice together and that’s what you see in this hospital .”

According to him, “this hospital today has become a centre of excellence for research, for training, this is an incubation centre for residents who come here and end up becoming consultants. She has invested heavily to produce doctors that will serve humanity.”
