Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mobilised over 1,500 personnel across Osun State, comprising regular and special marshals, as part of its operational strategies and action plans to create a safe motoring environment in the state, particularly during the yuletide.
The sector commander, Leye Adegboyega, who disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo, said the move became necessary because the ember months of every year are characterised by a notable increase in vehicular activity, which becomes especially pronounced as Christmas and New Year approach.
He said the special operation, tagged “Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes Special Patrols,” is aimed at enabling citizens to enjoy safe and hitch-free celebrations within and beyond the end-of-year 2025 festivities.
“Within this period, more people tend to travel across the country for end-of-year commercial activities as well as to celebrate with their families and loved ones.
This increases the occurrence of road traffic crashes, particularly as drivers display negative road‑use attitudes such as over‑speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, and route violation, among other traffic violations,” he explained.
He noted that to curb this trend, the command has implemented numerous strategies, including enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders, preventing traffic gridlocks, and intensifying public education and awareness.
He disclosed further that the command would deploy 28 patrol vehicles along major traffic routes across the state for traffic monitoring and swift intervention in emergencies whenever needed. Additionally, he stated that four ambulances would be strategically positioned to provide rescue services to crash victims within a maximum period of 10 minutes.
Adegboyega warned that mobile court sittings have been put in place across the state to enhance enforcement and bring traffic law violators to book, saying that it has even commenced with the prosecution of 33 offenders at a mobile court sitting in Ile‑Ife on Friday, 19 December 2025.
