The Great Nigerian Assembly (GNA) has appealed to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to participate in the Pacesetter Person of the Year Award Programme, designed to recognise leaders and changemakers, whose actions are driving tangible national progress.

The executive director of GNA, Dr Kayode Elusoji, said the initiative was more than an award scheme, noting that it is a citizen-driven movement aimed at promoting excellence, accountability and impactful leadership.

“Every Nigerian voice counts. By participating, you are not just voting for individuals; you are shaping the standard for leadership and setting the tone for a future where accountability, impact and integrity define our nation,” Elusoji said.

He urged Nigerians to be deliberate and courageous in recognising leaders who deliver measurable results rather than promises.

“Celebrate those who drive innovation, create opportunities and deliver real value to communities. Your recognition can inspire a new wave of commitment to nation-building across all sectors,” he added.

Elusoji disclosed that, in addition to the GNA Pacesetter Person of the Year Award, nominations are open in several categories, including Governor of the Year, Minister of the Year, Senator of the Year, House of Representatives Member of the Year, and Local Government Chairman of the Year.

According to him, the categories are structured to spotlight leaders at various levels whose programmes, reforms, investments, innovations, humanitarian efforts or public service initiatives have produced measurable, community-centred outcomes that strengthen institutions, improve livelihoods and advance national development.

He revealed that the GNA Pacesetter Committee has commenced the nomination and selection process for the 2025 Person of the Year, noting that 27 outstanding individuals have already been shortlisted based on verifiable national impact, transformational leadership and consistent service to society.

However, Elusoji emphasised that the process remains inclusive, encouraging Nigerians to nominate additional individuals deserving of recognition to ensure no impactful contributor is overlooked.

He stressed that public participation through voting and nominations is central to the initiative, as it provides citizens with a platform to demand results-driven leadership, celebrate innovation and promote accountability.

Participants are encouraged to nominate candidates and submit evidence of verifiable projects and interventions in areas such as job creation, community development, infrastructure, innovation, education and healthcare.
