As the harmattan season approaches, Kebbi State commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Empowerment, Hamidu Muhammad Jarkuka, has warned residents on the need to be safety consciousness by switching off all electrical appliances when not at home .
He made the call during an interview with some journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the warning was in view of the appraoching harmattan season, which is characterised by dry and windy weather which could cause fire outbreak on both domestics and private facilities.
Jarkuka however cautioned households against leaving electrical gadgets on while going to sleep which according to him could led to electrical faults and accidental fire when the light is back by KEDCO.
“Many avoidable fire incidents that happened are caused by negligence, faulty wiring, or untended electrical appliances, ” the commissioner said.
“Let me appeal to households, shop owners, office users and watchmen to facilities to always ensure that lights, heaters, irons, and other electrical devices are properly switched off after use,” the commissioner warned.
He also appealed to community leaders to sensitise the general public on the importance of the warning, empathising that the Kaura led administration is determined to protect lives and properties of people in the state.
