Nasarawa State governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule, has described death as a journey that every living soul must undertake when the appointed time comes, noting that no one is exempted from the inevitable passage.
The governor made the remarks on Saturday while condoling with the family of the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, during a condolence visit at the mosque of the deceased. Governor Abdullahi Sule noted that Sheikh Dahiru shared a strong and enduring relationship with Lafia, where he had many followers and students.
He said Nasarawa State would never forget the profound impact the scholar had on the city and its people.
Governor Sule described the late cleric as a highly influential figure whose impact transcended Bauchi State to Nasarawa, Nigeria and the global community. He said Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi devoted his life to the service of humanity through knowledge, guidance and spiritual leadership.
While praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased, the governor said prayers for Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi would continue for a long time, given the magnitude of his contributions to Islam and society. He added that the period of mourning serves as a reminder that everyone would one day “board the moving ship of death.”
Receiving the governor and his delegation on behalf of the family, Dr Surumbai Dahiru Usman expressed deep gratitude for the visit and the show of solidarity.
He appealed to the Nasarawa State government to emulate the Kaduna State government by immortalising the late scholar in a prominent way.
According to him, the family is requesting that a special facility, such as an educational institution or a mosque, be named after Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi to preserve his legacy and honour his lifelong contributions.
Earlier, while receiving Governor Sule’s entourage at Bauchi Government House, Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and deeply comforting.
He noted that Governor Sule’s presence, alongside a high-powered delegation, came at a moment of profound loss for the state following the deaths of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed.
Governor Bala Mohammed said the calibre of leaders present during the condolence visit underscored the depth of grief felt across the nation. He described the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as a leader of international repute who lived a fulfilled life dedicated to the service of humanity.
Governor Sule’s entourage included the chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed; the Emir of Keffi, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Shehu Usman Chindo Yamusa III; the Andoma of Doma, HRH Dr Ahmadu Aliyu and the secretary to the Nasarawa State government, Alhaji Labaran Shu’aibu Magaji, among other top government officials and traditional rulers.
