Labour Party Knocks Tinubu Over Europe Trip Amid Insecurity

The Labour Party (LP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu for travelling to Europe at a time of escalating insecurity across the country, describing the trip as insensitive and lacking empathy.

In a statement, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, said the President should have remained in Nigeria to personally coordinate security responses to the worsening attacks and humanitarian crises.

Usman argued that the timing of the trip was ill-advised, noting that violent incidents, including a bomb explosion in Zamfara State that reportedly killed nine people, underscore the gravity of the security situation.

She further alleged that Nigeria was facing external aggression and accused the Federal Government of downplaying the severity of the crisis.

According to LP’s acting national chairman, the president had yet to convene critical security meetings following recent US-led airstrikes on terrorist camps in parts of Kwara and Sokoto States, and had shown limited engagement with military leadership.

LEADERSHIP reports that President Tinubu departed Lagos for Europe ahead of an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he is scheduled to attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2026 Summit at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
