Four children and two adults have been rescued by personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in two separate accidents in different parts of the State.

According to the agency, a distress call was received at about 2:31 pm on Sunday, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Oniru Fire Station to an accident scene at No. 1, Wole Olateju Crescent, Kingshisha, Lekki Phase 1, off Admiralty Road, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The incident involved a Lexus RX 300 Jeep with registration number GGE 750BM, which reportedly lost control while allegedly overspeeding and rammed into five male children aged between eight and 13 years who were standing at the gate of the residence.

The four children who were rescued alive with severe injuries were taken to an undisclosed hospital by sympathisers.

One nine-year-old boy was reported to have died at the scene.

In a statement signed on Monday by the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, it was disclosed that both the vehicle and the victims sustained varying degrees of damage and injuries.

The affected vehicle was later evacuated by a private towing company with registration number GGE 812HX and taken to the Maroko Police Station.

The statement added that officers of the Maroko Police Division were present at the scene and have taken over investigations.

In a related incident, the Ajegunle Fire Station received a distress call at about 4:47 pm over a broken-down fuel tanker opposite Ecobank, Apapa, and immediately mobilised to the location.

On arrival, firefighters discovered that two adult males were trapped inside the tanker while carrying out repair work. Rescue personnel promptly commenced operations and successfully extricated both victims alive.

The rescued men were immediately handed over to medical responders and conveyed to a hospital for further treatment.
