Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Muheeba Dankaka, has declared the agency’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian has a sense of belonging through the distribution of federal jobs and infrastructural facilities.
She said doing this was necessary to achieve the principle of equity, justice and fairness to preserve the unity, peace, security and stability of Nigeria’s multi-ethnic polity.
Dankaka, who stated this at a workshop organised by the commission in Abuja yesterday to sensitise North Central stakeholders and enlighten the public toward balanced development, said the lack of understanding of the federal character principle amongst the people had affected the implementation of the principle of equity, justice, and fairness in the distribution of infrastructural facilities, resources and social amenities amongst the federating units.
She said the outcome of the workshops would enable the commission to galvanise the feelings and opinions of stakeholders with a view to strengthening the operations for the betterment of the country’s men and women.
She said, “By its twin mandates, the commission is entrusted with the responsibility of creating a sense of belonging among the citizenry, in order to preserve the unity, peace, security and stability of our multi- ethnic polity.
“This is in furtherance of the implementation of Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which states as the impetus for the establishment of the Federal Character Commission,” she said.
