African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State chapter, has cautioned the 2023 governorship candidate of the Accord Party (AP), Emeka Nwankpa, against engaging with unauthorised leaders of the chapter.
Publicity secretary of the chapter, P. C. Okeiyi, stated this in a statement in Umuahia, the state capital, following reports that he had defected to the ADC with over 5,000 of his supporters.
The statement said that while the ADC remains open to coalition partners, the leadership of the chapter under Emole Onwuasoanya noted that some individuals had been falsely parading themselves as its leaders.
The statement said, “Don Norman Obinna and three others allegedly acting with him were long suspended from the ADC and lacked the authority to speak or act on behalf of the chapter.
“Any membership cards issued by the suspended individuals are fake.
Such cards were neither issued by the chapter nor approved by the ADC’s National Working Committee (NWC).”
It also disowned claims of representation in Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South local government areas by Chimezie Ozems, saying he was neither elected nor recognised by the leadership of the chapter.
”The party recognised Raphael Nwachukwu and Ugochukwu Ugorji as the duly elected chairmen of Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South local government areas, respectively.”
Reiterating the ADC’s adherence to its constitution and internal democracy, it stated that it is ready to welcome intending members but will not allow unsuspecting members of the public to be deceived by suspended members.
“The ADC Constitution remains supreme. As a law-abiding party, we are compelled to issue this warning. Obinna and his political associates are not members of the State Working Committee and have long been suspended from the ADC.”
