Taraba State Command of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) has intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis) and arrested one in connection with the seizure in Jalingo, the state capital.
The interception, according to the Operations Unit of the VGN, followed credible intelligence on the movement of illegal drugs within the state.
The VGN operatives acted promptly to stop the shipment before it could be distributed.
The suspect, alongside the recovered substances, has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Taraba State, Mr. Bello Arabi, praised the commitment and courage of the personnel involved and described the seizure as a significant boost to the fight against insecurity in the state.
Arabi noted that drug abuse remains a major driver of criminal activities, and stressed that, removing illicit substances from circulation would help curb crime and enhance public safety.
He urged VGN personnel to remain vigilant and intensify efforts against drug-related offences.
He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to sustained collaboration with statutory security agencies, particularly the NDLEA, to ensure the safety and well-being of residents of Taraba State.
The operation underscores the VGN’s ongoing support for law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security across the state.
