The Christian Youth Initiative for Peace (CYIFP), Bauchi State chapter, has joined other concerned groups to defend Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, against allegations of terrorism financing by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Addressing journalists yesterday in Bauchi, the group declared that “Governor Bala Mohammed is not a financier of terrorism.”
On behalf of the group, the chairman, Philip Yohanna, and the secretary, Comrade Luka Musa Jr, said the allegations were inconsistent with Mohammed’s commitment to peace, security and interfaith harmony in Bauchi State.
“Having closely observed the pragmatic steps and relentless commitment of His Excellency toward ensuring security and peaceful coexistence in Bauchi State, we consider these claims baseless, malicious, and an affront to truth,” the group stated.
CYIFP said Bauchi State remained one of the most peaceful states in Northern Nigeria, despite the country’s security challenges, a situation it attributed to the governor’s leadership and inclusive governance style.
The group also commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his support for Christian institutions, promotion of religious tolerance, respect for human rights and sustained efforts toward unity and development in the state.
Describing the allegations as politically motivated, CYIFP alleged that it was part of an orchestrated attempt by political adversaries to destabilise Bauchi State for personal and political gains.
“We regard these claims as political persecution and a calculated attempt by the enemies of Bauchi State to drag the state into chaos,” the group said.
CYIFP also condemned what it described as efforts to tarnish the governor’s reputation, insisting that such actions threaten the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state.
The group said it rejects any narrative capable of inciting division or unrest. “We debunk all attempts to smear the hard-earned reputation of Governor Bala Mohammed, whom we know to be a detribalised, religiously tolerant leader with high integrity,” the statement added.
The group reaffirmed its confidence in the governor’s leadership and urged members of the public to disregard what it described as false claims, while continuing to support efforts aimed at sustaining peace and development in Bauchi State.
CYIFP further declared that Christians in the state feel safe and protected under the current administration, describing the governor as the most Christian-friendly governor Bauchi State has had since 2019.
The group also called on those engaging in divisive politics to embrace peace, unity, and the collective progress of the state, while pledging their unwavering support and loyalty to the governor.
