Zenith Bank Plc has announced its unwavering commitment to advancing sports development across Nigeria, promising to take its existing initiatives to unprecedented heights in the new year.

Dame Adaora Umeoji, Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication, stating, “We are always deliberate with our dealings with sports. We are committed to do it again in the New Year. We are proud of what we are doing and we will do more.”

Zenith Bank has a long-standing history of impactful sports sponsorships, particularly in basketball. The bank proudly highlighted its role in nurturing talent, with several players from its sponsored leagues going on to represent the national women’s team, D’Tigress, and secure numerous accolades.

“Over the years, we have made our marks with our sponsorship of sports events, especially basketball, in which the women’s national team in recent times has some of our products representing Nigeria and winning laurels,” Umeoji added. The bank also emphasised its consistent focus on youth development, aiming to “help build future champions for the country in their respective sports disciplines.”

Zenith Bank is the sole sponsor of the annual national women’s basketball league and also backs the annual Delta State Principals Cup and Headmasters Cup. Furthermore, the bank supports tennis and swimming at the elite social club level.

The bank’s two-decade long commitment to basketball has significantly raised the standard of the national women’s team, with many players progressing from the league to join D’Tigress. The national team recently celebrated its fifth consecutive AfroBasket Competition victory, an achievement that Zenith Bank marked with a lavish reception in Abuja.
