Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South-East geopolitical zone have pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

They made the pledge at the conclusion of the Izu Umunne gathering in Enugu, where the leaders resolved to support the APC as the most practical party for the region’s development.

The South-East APC leaders stressed that their decision is driven by the party’s transformative policies and the opportunities it has opened up for the region.

They also expressed their commitment to mobilising resources to deliver a massive victory for Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

In a communique, the leaders dissociated themselves from activities motivated by personal interests and affirmed their commitment to collective unity and progress.

They urged all sons and daughters of Igboland to support the APC as the most effective platform for realizing their political, economic, and social aspirations.

The leaders commended Tinubu’s administration for bridging infrastructural gaps in the South-East, elevating Igbo sons and daughters to key national positions, and demonstrating commitment to inclusive governance.

They expressed confidence that Tinubu’s continued leadership holds bright prospects for the region’s development.

The South-East APC leaders also aligned themselves with the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma and the five governors from the region, pledging their loyalty and support.

They called on all Ndi Igbo to rally behind Tinubu and the APC to build a future where their children can prosper.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, urged the South-East to support Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that it would strengthen Igbo bargaining power in Nigerian politics.

The APC has been making efforts to deepen its acceptability in the South-East region, with some Igbo traditional rulers and groups, such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo, pledging support for Tinubu.

On his part, the Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, urged leaders of the party to ensure harmony in the party and avoid anything that could bring the party to disrepute.

“We are no longer talking about building a party but how to successfully manage it for the benefit of all,” Nwifuru stated.

Earlier, Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah, justified the political movement to the APC in the South East as well as the decision of the South East to endorse President Tinubu to continue in office till 2031.

Mbah said that Tinubu’s endorsement and the massive movement to the APC, which now controlled three out of the five South East states, were a paradigm shift grounded in pragmatism, noting that the region was already reaping the benefits of aligning with the centre.

Mbah said, “I am thrilled even more so by the major goal of this meeting, which is to stamp a seal of endorsement on the President’s bold reforms and his candidacy in the 2027 election

“This is no whimsical decision; it is rooted in facts – and the understanding that success as a region comes from vision that is clear enough to guide action, discipline strong enough to withstand pressure, strategy grounded in reality, and delivery that is relentless

“Politics is nurtured by partnership; the willingness to trust each other, to align, and to work together even when the path is challenging.”

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who is also the campaign director for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the South East, expressed disappointment with the 6 per cent vote Tinubu received from the South East in 2023 and urged the people of the region to do better in 2027, emphasising the need for increased support for the president’s policies and initiatives.
