Former chief protocol officer for the Vatican Secretariat of State, Most Rev. (Dr) Fortunatus Nwachukwu, has lauded Abia State governor Alex Otti for infrastructure development, including the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road, Aba.

Nwachukwu spoke at a thanksgiving mass to mark the 13th anniversary of his episcopal ordination as archbishop at Vatican City by Pope Benedict XVI at the Sanctuary of Mary Immaculate, Egbelu-Etiti Ntigha.

The event was held alongside the profession of perpetual and temporary vows of three sisters into the Marrian Missionary Sisters Ad Regnum Dei in the Isialangwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.

He said he had pleaded with former governor Okezie Ikpeazu to fix the road, but he failed; hence, the road, which he described as “Aba’s stomach upset,” deteriorated and caused hardship to users.

In his homily, which centred on seeking to encounter Christ, he said Christian life, particularly religious vocation, is a call to seek and serve Him by leaving everything behind and serving with obedience, poverty, and chastity.

The priest, also the founder of Marrian Missionary Sisters Ad Regnum Dei, saluted the governor for fixing the Abia Tower Road through Umuahia town and other infrastructure across the state.

The archbishop, an indigene of the state, is also the Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches of the Catholic Church.

Speaking, Otti reiterated the drive and commitment of his administration to deliver on its campaign pledges and congratulated the archbishop and the sisters for the occasion.

“I want to thank all of you for the support you have given this administration. I thank the men and women of God for their consistent prayers for me and my family. There is nothing we can do without God.
