Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recovered 36 bottles of illicit drugs, popularly known as “Laughing ‘Gas”.

Also recovered are one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges, concealed inside a pair of trousers.

A statement by SP. Bright Edafe, police public relations officer, said, “On the 10th of January 2026, at about 0120 hours, operatives of Ekpan Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Labe Joseph, while conducting confidence-building patrol along Hausa Market, Ubeji, sighted about five suspected hoodlums loitering within the area in a suspicious manner.”

“Upon sighting the police team, the suspects took to their heels and fled in different directions. The operatives gave chase and, in the process, one Gift Ojulowo (male, 30 years) of New Layout, Ubeji, was apprehended.”

Furthermore, the police spokesman said that during “a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges, concealed inside his trousers.”

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity cult group.

“The suspect and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody, while preliminary investigation is ongoing. Efforts have been intensified to identify, track, and arrest other fleeing members of the gang for possible prosecution,” he concluded.

In another development, operatives of the Raiders Unit, acting on credible intelligence, made a significant breakthrough on January 8, 2026, at approximately 1330 hours.

The operation, coordinated under the supervision of SP Akanya Agbogha, Commander of the Raiders Unit, resulted in the arrest of Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso (male, 43 years).

A professional search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of 36 bottles of illicit drugs, popularly known as laughing gas.

The suspect and exhibits are currently in police custody, while an investigation is ongoing to trace possible sources and distribution channels.

Edafe said these achievements, recorded shortly after the assumption of duty of CP Aina Adesola as the new Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, underscore the Command’s resolve to consolidate proactive, intelligence-led policing and reassure residents of enhanced security.
