Public and private primary and secondary schools in Edo Central Senatorial District of Edo State will now resume for the Second Term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, January 19, 2026, following a review of the earlier postponement of resumption announced by the State Government.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, disclosed this in a public special announcement issued by the Ministry of Education, and made available to journalists on on Wednesday.

According to Iyamu, the decision to review the earlier suspension of resumption was taken after reassessing the circumstances that necessitated the postponement, with a view to ensuring that academic activities commence without further disruption.

“The Ministry of Education wishes to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians, school heads, proprietors and all education stakeholders, that the earlier postponement of the resumption of schools in Edo Central Senatorial District has been reviewed,” the commissioner said.

He stated that all categories of schools in the senatorial district, both public and private, were now cleared to resume academic activities as scheduled.

“Accordingly, all public and private primary and secondary schools in Edo Central Senatorial District are to resume for the Second Term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, 19th January, 2026,” Iyamu added.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the state government had earlier directed schools in Edo Central Senatorial District to delay resumption for the second term due to administrative and logistical considerations, a development that generated concern among parents, school proprietors and other education stakeholders.

The postponement, which affected thousands of pupils and students across the district, was intended to allow the government to address identified challenges and put necessary measures in place to guarantee a stable and conducive learning environment.

Assuring stakeholders of the government’s commitment to education, Iyamu urged parents, guardians and school authorities to comply fully with the new resumption date.

“Parents, guardians and school authorities are advised to take note of this development and ensure full compliance to enable a smooth and effective commencement of academic activities,” he stated.

The commissioner also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the period of uncertainty.

“The Ministry appreciates the patience, cooperation, and understanding of all stakeholders as we continue to take steps aimed at improving the welfare and learning environment of our children,” Iyamu noted.
