The Yobe State government has announced that the long-awaited Potiskum Truck Transit Park will become operational in March, creating 5,000 direct jobs in the state. This marks a milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance logistics, trade and employment.
The commissioner for Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this to journalists, describing the project as a game-changer for road transport management and economic activity in the state.
He said the park is designed to accommodate up to 500 trucks at a time.
To Bego, the Truck Transit Park is equipped with modern facilities, including a fully functional mechanic’s workshop, warehouses, drivers’ lodges, laundry services, mosques, and other support infrastructure aimed at ensuring safety, comfort, and efficiency for truck drivers and logistics operators.
He noted that the facility would help reduce traffic congestion and indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty vehicles within urban areas.
Our correspondent observed that trees have been planted within and around the park to provide a serene and conducive environment, while also promoting environmental protection and climate-friendly development.
Additionally, Ahmed Buba, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, stated that the Truck Transit Park aligns with the state government’s urban renewal and sustainable development agenda.
He explained that the project was carefully planned to meet international standards in terms of layout, safety and environmental management.
Buba noted that the park would significantly reduce wear and tear on city roads by keeping heavy trucks away from residential and commercial areas, thereby extending the lifespan of urban infrastructure.
He said the facility would also improve security by ensuring that truck movements are properly coordinated and monitored.
The housing commissioner further stated that the project would stimulate auxiliary businesses, such as food vending, vehicle maintenance, retail services, and accommodation, creating economic opportunities for residents, especially young people.
He assured that the government would continue to invest in infrastructure that supports orderly urban growth and economic resilience.
