The 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has been admitted to the Northwest University, Kano, to study law.
According to an official letter from the institution dated January 12, 2026, and signed by the Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), Jafaru Muhammad, the university approved the Emir’s application for special admission after he satisfied the requirements for special consideration.
The letter, addressed to the Emir at the Gidan Rumfa Palace, stated that he has been admitted into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Common Law and Shariah in the Faculty of Law. The admission places him at Level 200 and takes effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.
“With reference to your application for special admission into this University, I write to convey the University’s approval of your admission into Northwest University, Kano after satisfying the University requirements for special consideration,” the letter read.
It added that the admission is subject to compliance with the rules and regulations as contained in the Northwest University Student Handbook.
The university further directed the Emir to proceed with his registration by completing all necessary formalities across relevant units, including the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records, the ICT Unit, the Bursary Department, the Faculty and Department, the University Library, and the Student Affairs Division.
