The International Spokesman of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke, has appealed for an immediate suspension of the impeachment proceedings against Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, calling instead for dialogue and reconciliation among all political stakeholders.
Nkweke, who has played key roles in international peace and mediation efforts, expressed concern over the deepening political tension in his home state.
“I will not fold my hands while my home state continues to be engulfed in a complicated political crisis,” he stated.
As part of his peace initiative, the diplomat revealed plans to engage major stakeholders in the state, including the Chairman and members of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, members of the clergy, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Dr. Godknows Igali, among others.
Nkweke emphasised the importance of prioritizing the collective interest of Rivers people above political or personal ambitions.
“We must put the interest of Rivers State and Nigeria above personal or partisan interests. I call on all stakeholders to sheath their swords and work towards reconciliation,” he urged.
He also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other national leaders to intervene and promote peace in the oil-rich state, warning that continued instability could have wider implications for governance and development.
According to him, the International Association of World Peace Advocates, renowned for its conflict-resolution expertise, is ready to partner with stakeholders and institutions to facilitate a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the crisis.
“IAWPA stands ready to lend its support and experience in mediating this conflict for the good of all,” Nkweke affirmed.
The political crisis in Rivers State has deepened in recent weeks following renewed moves by members of the state House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara, a situation that has drawn national attention and widespread calls for calm.
