The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that President Bola Tinubu was laying strong foundations for long-term economic growth and shared prosperity in Nigeria.
The minister disclosed this on Friday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by members of the Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) 2027.
According to Idris, the Tinubu administration has taken bold and sometimes difficult decisions to place the country on a more sustainable economic path, noting that early signs of recovery were already emerging across key sectors.
“These steps were taken to stabilise the economy and restore confidence,” the minister said. “What we are seeing today are the foundations of long-term growth and shared prosperity.”
He stressed that Nigeria’s improving economic outlook must be protected through national unity, responsible communication, and collective support for government policies, warning that distorted narratives about the country could harm investor confidence and slow development.
“We must speak positively and truthfully about Nigeria,” Idris said. “When we project stability and unity, we attract investment and create opportunities for our people.”
The minister commended GAT 2027 for its civic engagement and sense of responsibility in promoting accurate public information.
He also welcomed the group’s proposal to partner with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in areas such as public enlightenment, youth engagement, and strategic communication.
“Advocacy groups play an important role in ensuring that government policies reach the grassroots,” he said, adding that effective communication is essential to national stability and development.
Idris reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to building a Nigeria that works for all citizens, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or background, stressing that national cohesion remains central to the administration’s vision.
He assured the delegation that the ministry would continue to collaborate with credible organisations to ensure that accurate and timely information is widely disseminated, noting that effective communication is key to sustaining public trust.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of GAT 2027, Professor Ochugudu Achoda Ipuele, said the group visited the minister to brief him on its activities and to express solidarity with his mandate of informing Nigerians and clarifying government policies.
“We are here to solidarise with you on the mandate you have for Nigeria, which is to inform the country, clarify government policies, and take information to the grassroots,” Ipuele said.
He added that the group remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s policies by countering distorted narratives, particularly during election periods, and by engaging young people.
“This group is poised to respond in real time to false or misleading information in the public space and to engage the youth, so that as we approach 2027, the Renewed Hope Agenda continues with even more programmes for the country,” he stated.
