Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, has expressed sympathy to traders affected by the fire that gutted Dumne grain market in Song local government area.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, described the incident as devastating not only to the 60 affected traders of the ‘Kasuwan Dadi’ grain market, mostly women, but also to the broader economic fabrics of the state.

Over 60 open shops were destroyed in the inferno, the cause of which could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Addressing the traders during her assessment visit yesterday, Farauta urged them to take solace in God in whatever they lost to the inferno.

She thanked God that no lives were lost and cautioned the residents against careless, indiscriminate burning of refuse and bushes, especially as the harmattan sets in.

“We came to commiserate with the traders who lost their merchandise and pray that the fire doesn’t happen again. The fact that no life was lost, we are grateful to God. Whatever losses you incurred, God will replace them.

“We are in the dry season and the harmattan season, fire can occur easily, people should be careful when they set fire or throw away a stick of cigarettes.

“Traders should ensure that at the end of the business day, fires are properly put out,” the deputy governor cautioned.

Earlier, the chairman of Song council Idris Yahaya, welcomed the delegation to the local government.

Upon receiving the delegation, the Gubo Yungur, His Royal Majesty, John Dio Matalo, thanked the government team for standing by them during the trial moment.
