The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yobe State University, Damaturu, Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, has presented appointment letters to Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University and Mallam Isa Audu Dallari as registrar, who have both pledged to do their best to transform the institution.
The presentation followed the approval of their appointments by the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, based on the recommendations of the University’s Governing Council at its extraordinary meeting held on 15 January 2026.
Speaking during the presentation, Ahmed Mustapha Goniri congratulated the appointees and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by providing purposeful leadership and strengthening the University’s academic and administrative systems.
He emphasised that their appointments were the result of a transparent, merit-based selection process in line with established procedures.
In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bukar Jamri, congratulated the new Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, expressing confidence in their capacity to advance the vision and mission of Yobe State University.
Professor Jamri assured the appointees of the University community’s full support and cooperation and wished them a successful and impactful tenure.
Also speaking, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Bashir Tahir, stated that he will do his best to uplift the University. “On behalf of myself and the Registrar, I thank Almighty Allah for granting us life and good health to witness this important occasion. We are deeply grateful and humbled by this opportunity to serve.
He added, “We appreciate the Executive Governor of Yobe State for the confidence reposed in us, as well as the Governing Council for this responsibility.
“We assure all stakeholders that we will do our very best to justify this trust through dedicated, transparent, and purposeful leadership.
He said, “Our commitment is to the development of the University and the broader community it serves. In this regard, we welcome constructive criticism and valuable suggestions that will help us strengthen our academic and administrative systems and move the University forward.”
LEADERSHIP gathered that Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir, a Professor of General Surgery and Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, was described as eminently qualified for the position of Vice-Chancellor, having amassed vast academic, medical, and administrative experience. Until his appointment, he served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital, Damaturu.
Similarly, Mallam Isa Audu Dallari’s appointment as Substantive Registrar was made in accordance with the provisions of the Yobe State University Law, 2006 (as amended). His selection reflects his proven competence, dedication, and long-standing service to the University, including his prior service as Director of Administration.
