A Kogi State-born philanthropist, Dr Prince Olatunji Olusoji, has said that his gestures have no connection with any political ambition as being speculated in some quarters.

While fielding questions from journalists yesterday in Lokoja, the state capital,  Olusoji said he set up the Olatunji Olusoji Foundation in 2013 to render assistance to the underprivileged in the society.

Olusoji who recently joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, said, “My philanthropic gesture has no political undertone. I have not told anyone that I have any political ambition. I started the Olatunji Olusoji Foundation in 2013 to assist the less privileged. I love to give, I hate to see people suffer. That’s how we were brought up by our parents.

“Those saying that I want to go to the Senate or I want to a deputy Governor, which is why I’m carrying out Empowerment programmes, are all peddling unfounded rumours. I haven’t discuss that with anyone and I am not contesting for anything come 2027.

“But let it be on record that if the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, gives me any assignment, I will gladly take and execute it,” he noted.

While declaring his support for the second term ambition of the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, he called on the people of Okunland to be united and support the governor’s second term bid to give them the moral ground to solicit his support in 2031.

“Look at what happened in 2023 governorship election. While the Central and East have only one consensus candidate each on the ballot, Okunland has more than three candidates on the ballot. That shows how disunited and unorganized we are. The result of that election was predictable from the onset. Governor Ododo defeated all of them even in Okunland.

“I have interacted with the governor he is an honest man, a man of his words, a promise keeper. All I’m saying is that we should support him for his second term ambition support him to finish strong and we will be in a better position to ask to be compensated,” he said.

On security, Olusoji calls on government to invest more in the provision of sophisticated military hardwares, and the welfare of security personnel.

“Security is very expensive. Government at all levels therefore, need to do the right investment in the procurement of military hardwares, adequate welfare for our personnel at the war front.

“If you see the kind of weapons carried by these criminals, then you know that we have to invest more in acquiring more sophisticated military equipment. With the current efforts of the federal government and the state government, they will surely be defeated. But we need more investment in technology,” he added.
