The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has responded promptly to a residential fire outbreak caused by a lithium solar inverter system at Suncity Estate, Galadima, Abuja.
FFS, therefore, cautioned members of the public to exercise proper care in the installation, use, and maintenance of solar inverter systems, saying only qualified technicians should be engaged, and systems must be properly ventilated and routinely inspected to prevent overheating and related fire risks.
A statement signed by the National PRO/Head, Corporate Services, Federal Fire Service, National Headquarters, DCF P.O. Abraham, on Sunday night, said the emergency response involved coordinated efforts by the FFS and the FCT Fire Service.
“Firefighting teams included a crew from the RED HOUSE Federal Fire Headquarters led by DSF Bolaji, the Apo Station crew led by DSF Ogwuche, with the FCT Fire Service joining the Federal Fire Service in putting out the fire.
“Following a prompt alert from residents, fire officers successfully brought the fire under control after an hour-long operation. Properties valued at approximately ₦700 million were saved, with no casualties recorded,” he stated.
“The Federal Fire Service cautions members of the public to exercise proper care in the installation, use, and maintenance of solar inverter systems. Only qualified technicians should be engaged, and systems must be properly ventilated and routinely inspected to prevent overheating and related fire risks,” he stated.
The FFS spokesman reiterated the importance of early emergency reporting in minimising damage and loss during fire incidents.
