Nigeria’s national electricity grid suffered another collapse on Tuesday morning, plunging several parts of the country into darkness.

Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that as of 11:00 a.m., power generation had dropped to zero megawatts (MW), cutting off supply to all 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) nationwide.

This marked the second grid collapse in just five days.

LEADERSHIP reports that the grid experienced its first collapse of the year last Friday, January 24, 2026

As of press time, neither the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) nor the Ministry of Power had issued an official statement on the cause of the collapse and recovery efforts.
