The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa during separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The arrests were disclosed in a press release issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the release, operatives attached to the Fagge Police Division intercepted a tricycle at Triumph Roundabout on January 25, 2026, at about 3:00pm, while on intelligence-led surveillance. “When a search was conducted, 157 parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa were recovered,” the statement said. Two suspects, identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area of the State, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In another operation carried out earlier on January 24, 2026, the command’s Rapid Response Team raided identified black spots across the Kano metropolitan area. The police said the operation led to the arrest of Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25, who were found in possession of “40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solutions, half a roll of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, and 10 small bottles of ‘Suck and Die’.”
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations, noting that the command remained committed to tackling drug trafficking and abuse in the state. He urged residents to “remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency numbers.”
