The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denounced a call by Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for the State’s deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, to resign his position.
LEADERSHIP reports that this followed Waiya’s recent statement in an interview, in which he said that if he were in the Deputy Governor’s position, he “would do the honourable thing and resign.” His comment came after Gwarzo refused to follow Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC), fueling speculation over the Deputy Governor’s political alignment within the Yusuf administration.
In a response, NNPP Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, in a statement, described Gwarzo as a “pivotal figure” in Kano State governance, stressing that he remains constitutionally entitled to carry out his duties as a joint ticket holder with the governor. “The state executive council, being a constitutional body, should not be entangled in party politics. ”
The statement further highlighted “the Deputy Governor’s significant contributions to the administration’s successes and reminds Mr. Waiya that he was notably absent during the struggles that birthed the current administration.”
The NNPP maintained that Gwarzo’s continuity in office was critical for the stability and progress of governance in Kano State.
