Leicester City have bolstered their squad with the arrival of Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo, who joins the Foxes on loan from Southampton until the culmination of the 2025/26 season.

The move sees the 29-year-old Nigerian international make the switch from St. Mary’s to Filbert Way, a transfer that is widely anticipated to inject much-needed versatility and attacking impetus into Leicester’s ranks during the crucial final months of the campaign.

Aribo’s departure from Southampton comes as no surprise, with the midfielder having fallen out of favour, particularly within the Nigerian national team setup since the appointment of Eric Chelle. With his contract at the Saints set to expire in the summer, this loan spell is widely regarded as a precursor to a permanent move away, marking a new chapter in his career after four seasons with Southampton.

Aribo made a significant 111 appearances across both the Premier League and the Sky Bet Championship for Southampton, demonstrating his experience at the highest levels of English football.

Expressing his palpable excitement following the completion of the deal, Aribo shared his enthusiasm with the club’s official website. “I’m buzzing. For me, it’s amazing to have got it done and I just can’t wait to get going,” he remarked. The midfielder was particularly impressed by his new surroundings, adding, “Honestly, [the facilities are] unbelievable. It just takes your breath away almost. I can’t wait to get started. It’s a great Club.”

The decision to join Leicester City appears to have been a straightforward one for Aribo. Upon learning of the Foxes’ interest, the former Glasgow Rangers star wasted no time in committing to the move. “I was excited,” he explained. “I just wanted a change of scenery, to get back playing, and be at my best again. It’s been a difficult season with not much playing time.”

Aribo is clearly eager to reignite his career and return to his peak performance levels. “Of course, I’m excited just to have the chance to be back out there firing again. It’s important that I can prove a point and be my best self every single day,” he asserted. When asked to describe his playing style and what he will bring to Enzo Maresca’s side, Aribo highlighted his dynamic and adaptable nature. “I’m someone who’s willing to take risks, exciting on the ball, and I’ll try and pop up with a few goals as well. I always joke with my friends that I can play anywhere.”

While comfortable across various midfield roles, Aribo elaborated on his preferred positions and his valuable ability to adapt. “I’m pretty much a central midfielder [or a] No.10. I think it’s important because the managers change things sometimes in a game. I can adapt to different roles, different positions, it’s not too much of a problem for me.”

This versatility will undoubtedly be a key asset for Leicester City as they navigate the remainder of their challenging season, with Aribo hoping to make a significant impact and help the club achieve its objectives.
