Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered 4,423 new voters in Anambra State in the first four weeks of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.

The resident electoral commissioner in the state, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, disclosed this during a media briefing at the commission’s state headquarters in Awka, yesterday.

She said CVR commenced nationwide on 5th January, except in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and would last till 17th April 2026.

She said the FCT, Abuja, was excluded from the ongoing CVR exercise due to the area council election scheduled for this month.

The INEC said the CVR is ongoing in all the Registration Areas, also called wards, across the 21 local government areas of the State.

She expressed satisfaction with the turnout so far in the state for the CVR, but urged eligible voters to register now and not wait until close to the end of the exercise.

She expressed satisfaction with the collaborative support the Commission has received from relevant stakeholders, particularly political parties and the media.

“The Commission under my watch in Anambra State is highly impressed, and we believe that at the end of the ongoing nationwide registration, we are expected to be among the states with a higher number of voters.

Dr Agwu expressed satisfaction with the last governorship election in the state, saying there was no record of technical glitches.

She also said that, contrary to reports of vote-buying during the governorship election, she had no evidence of the incident.

She said that if there were any such proven incident at her disposal, she would have prosecuted the culprits.
