The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old tenant, Bello Abubakar, over the allege killing of his landlady, Maryam Hassan, in Kundulun Quarters of Gombe metropolis.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, February 2, 2026.
He stated that the officers moved to the scene after a Good Samaritan reported to the police that the victim was found lying motionless outside her residence with a severe head injury.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives from Gombe Division promptly visited the scene. The victim was immediately evacuated to hospital, where she was sadly certified dead,” he stated.
DSP Buhari explained that preliminary investigations led to the arrest of Abubakar, who lives as a tenant in the deceased’s compound.
Exhibits recovered during the investigation included a pestle, a stool, a bucket, a shirt suspected to be stained with blood, and a Redmi 15C mobile phone belonging to the deceased, which was found in the suspect’s possession.
According to police, the suspect later confessed to the crime.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
DSP Buhari added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, assured residents that the command would ensure diligent prosecution of the case and urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
