Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has disclosed that his administration has constructed and rehabilitated over 570km of urban, rural roads across the state.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in a statement at the weekend, while reacting to the ‘joint Kunav Governorship Aspirants media briefing’, Alia said that since the assumption of office, he has pursued deliberate reforms in public finance management, civil service efficiency, education, healthcare delivery, and rural infrastructure.

The governor explained that revenue leakages were being blocked, payroll fraud curtailed, abandoned projects given the attention they needed, and service delivery realigned with prudence and accountability. “These are verifiable facts”

Alia further said that, apart from his numerous projects, he was currently reconstructing a federal highway from Wurukum to the Air Force Base to Renewed Hope Estate, close to Abinsi.

He stated that his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has gifted Benue State with a flyover, which is already under construction at the Wurukum roundabout, in addition to the ones he is building at the High-Level roundabout and Gyado Junction in Gboko.

Governor Alia described the recent press conference by Joint Kunav Governorship Aspirants, “as malicious in intent, misleading in content, and vexatious in tone said their outing was politically motivated, with its document crafted, not to advance public interest, but to prosecute vendetta and desperately instigate disharmony where measurable progress is evident.

Enumerating some of his projects, Governor Alia said he has already established the Food Basket Brewery and the Benue Fruit Juice company, both of which have started test runs. “In addition, the Governor has established a specialised university situated in Ihugh”

“We have taken note of a press conference addressed in Makurdi on Friday, 6th February 2026, by a group who described themselves as “Joint Kunav Governorship Aspirants.”

The statement reads in parts, ”While Governor Hyacinth Alia respects the constitutional rights of citizens to free expression and political participation, it must be stated in unambiguous terms that the said press conference was malicious in intent, misleading in content, and vexatious in tone said their outing was politically motivated, with its document crafted, “not to advance public interest, but to prosecute vendetta and desperately instigate disharmony where measurable progress is evident.”

‎”Governor Alia is building legacies. His laudable strides are visible and verifiable. In less than three years, he has constructed and rehabilitated over 570km of roads, including inner city and rural roads across the state”

“If all these are not legacies, then, perhaps, development has gotten a new meaning.

To see, feel and enjoy development and deny at the same time may be convenient politics, but it is nothing other than dishonesty to public engagement”

‎The statement added, “Also, the attempt to weaponise insecurity for cheap political advantage is particularly reprehensible. This is because the Governor Alia-led administration has never trivialised the pains of affected communities nor politicised human suffering.

‎”Let it be known that security challenges in Benue, as in many states, are complex and long-standing, requiring coordinated federal, regional, and community responses. Anyone who wishes this state well will not dedicate his time, trying desperately to mock the suffering of the people in the name of criticism”

‎”The government of Rev. Fr. Alia has strengthened intelligence-led engagement, supported security agencies within constitutional limits, invested in community policing structures, and sustained humanitarian interventions for displaced persons. Therefore, to insinuate indifference or constitutional breach like the ”Joint Kunav Governorship Aspirants” have done, is not only outright false; it is reckless and smacks of mindlessness”

‎”Equally troubling is the group’s selective memory and convenient amnesia. Funnily, the majority of those now posturing as moral arbiters were either silent or complicit during periods of deeper institutional decay and insecurity.

‎Benue does not need sanctimony dressed as statesmanship. It needs sincerity, patience, and constructive engagements, especially from those seeking public office”

‎”Governor Alia remains focused on governance, not noise; on results, not rhetoric; and on unity, not division.

‎The good thing here is that Benue people are discerning. They can at once separate ambition from service, criticisms from vicious conspiracy, and facts from fear-mongering,” the statement explained.
