Shehu who is standing trial for alleged cyber-crime in a case instituted against him by the Inspector General of Police, sought to tender the documents through his counsel, A.I Abubakar, Esq.

The court dismissed the photocopied memos when the first prosecution witness (PW 1) who is also the Former Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, denied the authenticity of the signatures on the papers which the defence counsel claimed to be his own during cross-examination.

A statement issued by the press secretary in the office of the SSG, Abdullahi Yar’adua and made available to LEADERSHIP, said the court also refused a letter headed paper of a private company carrying the name of Mustapha Inuwa as director.  The Judge affirmed that it lacked merit and was irrelevant to the matter before the court.

The presiding judge, Justice A.M Liman who cautioned the defence counsel to follow the rules of the court said that all the documents sought to be tendered by the defence counsel, A.I Abubakar were not admissible.

He declared that for the court to accept any public document as exhibit, it must be a certified true copy.

The case was adjourned to 25th and 26th January, 2023 for continuation of hearings.

The Inspector General of Police had over a year ago, dragged Mahadi Shehu to court for alleged forgery, incitement and disparaging the State government and its officials through the use of various internet platforms, allegations Shehu has since denied.
