Jigawa’s Investment In Education Yielding Results – Gov Namadi

Governor Malam Umar Namadi has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the state government’s investment in education, describing the results as encouraging and promising.

The governor made this assertion while presiding over a basic education stakeholders roundtable meeting convened to review progress, challenges and opportunities within the basic education sub-sector, held at the Government House, Dutse, on Sunday.

He noted that the success recorded is very visible, tangible and measurable, and vowed to continue using all available resources to ensure access to quality education for all children in the state.

He added that investment in education is key for the state to improve its human capital and achieve the desired goals of becoming a prosperous and great state in Nigeria.

Governor Namadi however stated that his government will continue to collaborate with donor partners, the federal government, and public and private stakeholders in revitalising the state education sector.

“Repositioning our education sector is the responsibility of every good citizen, and in doing this work we will continue to strengthen public participation in school management, monitoring and policy implementation.

“The donor partners and other civil societies have briefed us on the impact of their interventions and also on our commitment. The result of their assessment revealed significant progress made in the sector, so we are proud of this assessment and its outcomes.

“However, we have noticed areas that need more attention, and we promise to continue with our collaboration and partnership to surmount the challenges and make our education sector meet standard.

“From teacher recruitment, teacher training and posting, to teaching and learning models, classroom infrastructure, learning materials, scholarships and all other essential requirements for creating an enabling environment for teaching and learning, effective learning outcomes will remain our top priority,” Governor Namadi stated.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, explained that the stakeholders meeting brought together all departments, sectors and institutions involved in education data and service delivery.

He emphasized that addressing challenges in the education sector requires collective effort, stating that the shared goal of all stakeholders is to ensure that every Jigawa child enrolls in school, remains in school, successfully transitions through all levels and completes their education.

The commissioner revealed that recent assessments show significant improvements in access to education, pupil retention, transition rates between levels and completion rates. He also highlighted notable progress in teacher recruitment, deployment, training, attendance and overall performance.

Dr Danzomo attributed these achievements to the political will of Governor Namadi, the enabling environment created by his administration and the level playing field that allows all stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to educational development in the state.

The stakeholders meeting forms part of Governor Umar Namadi’s broader efforts to revitalize and reposition the education sector as a cornerstone for sustainable human capital development in Jigawa State.

Participating development partners and NGOs at the meeting included PLANE, AGILE, UNICEF, the Islamic Development Bank, and Save the Children, among others.
