Fintiri Speaks On Consultations For Possible Defection From PDP To APC

Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has confirmed ongoing consultations with stakeholders over his possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the disclosure on Thursday during an assessment tour of projects in Jada Local Government Area, the home LGA of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Adamawa State.

Speaking to journalists, Fintiri said the decision would ultimately depend on the wishes of the people of the state.

“If that is the wish of my people to defect, I have no choice because the politics is all about it. But then, there are people who are making noise. There are people who have made their lives to be political merchants. They are so cheap. They are afraid,” he said.

He added that his administration’s performance would remain his major political strength regardless of party affiliation.

“I think I’m coming with the value. I’m coming with a lot of prospects. I’m coming with a lot of foods to add to wherever and whatever that we are going to do. So I think there is nothing to be afraid of,” Fintiri added.

The governor maintained that his government has built strong grassroots support through development projects and human capital investments.

“Adamawa is ours. We have built this organic connection through developments and infrastructure that we have developed and given to our people, particularly human capital. And so I think we are good to go.”

When asked directly whether he would soon join the APC, Fintiri reiterated that consultations were still ongoing.

“I’m still consulting. I’ve told you, if my people say I should move, I will move. If they say I should stay, I’m going to stay and I will win.”

He also expressed confidence in his political relevance and electoral strength.

“This is what I want to say. Wherever we go, the most important thing is that we have delivered and we are going to win. Whoever doubted me, let him come and face us. Let him come and face us. It’s not to hide and be talking. You don’t do politics in your sitting room. You don’t win politics by becoming political merchants,” he stated.
