Honourable Bukola Olopade, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), has been presented with the esteemed Sports Administrator of the Year award at the recent New Telegraph Awards. This accolade recognises his exceptional contributions to sports development across Nigeria.
The ceremony, held on Friday, celebrated Mr Olopade’s transformative leadership, administrative prowess, and unwavering dedication to establishing sustainable sports frameworks nationwide.
A highly experienced sports administrator, Olopade previously served two terms as Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State, where he spearheaded significant reforms and talent development programmes. His leadership extends to various strategic positions within Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
He is a former President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, where he championed inclusivity and the progression of para-sports. Furthermore, he held the role of Chief Operating Officer for the Nigeria National League (NNL), where he enhanced operational efficiency and league management.
In the private sector, Hon. Olopade was Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, instrumental in delivering internationally acclaimed sporting events and boosting Nigeria’s standing in global road racing.
Under his current tenure at the National Sports Commission, working alongside Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, Nigerian sports has experienced renewed optimism, improved coordination, and strengthened stakeholder trust.
