The Governing Council of the University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University) under the chairmanship of Senator Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has dismissed a report alleging the diversion of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for students by the university’s management.
The council stated that no NELFUND fund had been diverted, misappropriated or unlawfully withheld by the university or any of its officials.
It further noted the official clarification issued by NELFUND, through its Directorate of Strategic Communications that there was no verified evidence to support the allegation, and that the report did not reflect the true position of affairs.
The university, in a statement by the acting registrar and secretary to the council, Malam Sambo Mohammed, said it operates within established financial regulations and maintains strict accountability in the management of all funds.
The council added that the university had consistently adhered to all guidelines governing the disbursement and utilisation of funds under intervention schemes, including NELFUND, in line with extant regulations.
It urged the public and all stakeholders to disregard the misleading media report and rely on verified information from credible sources.
