Informants Fueling Insecurity In North Central, Says Presidential Aide

The senior special assistant to the president on community engagement in the North Central, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, has blamed informants within communities for the worsening insecurity across the North Central region.

Essiet said insider collaboration with criminal elements remained a recurring factor undermining security efforts, warning that such actions continue to frustrate attempts by government and security agencies to restore peace and stability.

In a statement issued under the #PresidentialVillaUpdate, the aide called on residents of high-risk communities to reject individuals who provide intelligence and logistical support to bandits and other criminal groups.

She expressed concern that some residents, driven by short-term personal gains, compromise the safety and long-term future of their communities by aiding criminal elements.

According to her, sustainable security in the region cannot be achieved without active cooperation from local stakeholders, including traditional leaders, youth groups and community associations.

Essiet urged residents not to sacrifice collective security for temporary benefits, stressing that community complicity has continued to embolden criminal networks operating within the region.

She also appealed for stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies, encouraging citizens to share credible information that could help prevent attacks and dismantle criminal cells.

The presidential aide reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restore safety and stability in the North Central, adding that national unity and peace depend significantly on grassroots support for ongoing security operations.

She maintained that collective action and responsible citizenship remained critical to overcoming insecurity in the region.
