A Rivers State-born philanthropist and businessman, Kingsley Wali, has decried the level of hatred among the political class in the state, insisting that the ugly situation does not speak well of the state.
Wali stated this yesterday on a live radio programme, which was monitored in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
“The only way we can make progress is to stop hating. Somebody has a right to agree with you differently. That I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean that I am talking nonsense. Look at how we talk to our political leaders, even though most of them have not conducted themselves with dignity.
“It is how you address your father in public is how people are going to look at you. Let begin to have a conversation about Rivers State in a positive sense,” he said.
The philanthropist stated that from his observations, a lot of people in the state are afraid of peace, saying that without peace, the state cannot move forward.
Wali said: “I wish that the conversation about Rivers State is a little more progressive than it is. A lot of people believe that Rivers State is not moving, we are stuck. Besides that, I will like to have a conversation around this; the first one is that I will like to ask a question or probably advise.
“Why are we afraid of peace ? No normal person should be scared of peace. We act like we are scared of peace. You and I know that for any society to move forward, the society must have as the of its pillars, peace. So, that thing that will make you to grow; why are you scared of it?”
