Disquiet As Viral Video Shows Bandits Advertising AK-47 Rifles, Anti-Aircraft Guns

A disturbing viral video circulating on social media has exposed what appeared to be an organised arms market operating inside a Nigerian town, where suspected terrorists and bandits openly invited herdsmen and other armed groups from surrounding forests to purchase sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles and anti-aircraft (AA) guns.

In the footage, several armed men are seen inside a room displaying large quantities of weapons and ammunition.

Some of the men attempted to conceal their faces to avoid identification, while another individual, speaking in Hausa language from behind the camera, calmly advertised the weapons as though they were ordinary merchandise.

Boxes of ammunition were stacked across the room, with multiple firearms laid out in full view.

At one point, the speaker drew attention to the armed men guarding the cache, saying, “You see black and black, these are the owners of the weapons here.”

The narrator also boasted about the group’s firepower and readiness, suggesting the weapons were already in their possession regardless of how they were obtained.

“Now we will enter the world, we thank God. Whether they ambushed or stole the weapons, you can see the weapons, ammunition inside many boxes,” he said.

Security sources familiar with the video described the development as deeply troubling, noting that it pointed to a growing trend in which armed groups embedded within towns actively supply weapons to bandits operating in forests and rural communities.

One security source, reacting to the footage, told SaharaReporters in anguish, “Imagine, those are a group of bandits that are in the town inviting Fulani herdsmen or bandits that are inside the bush to come and buy weapons from them. They are even advertising to their fellow bandits, saying, ‘This is AA anti-aircraft and ammunition… then AK-47 Russian model.’ Subhanallah.”

The source questioned how non-state actors could gain access to such advanced weaponry, warning that the scale and sophistication of the arms suggest powerful backing.

“What kind of thing is that? Those people must have sponsors that are backing their matter up. It is God alone that can save our country,” the source said.

The official further lamented what he described as an imbalance between the weapons wielded by bandits and those issued to security operatives on the frontlines.

“Bandits are using AA and AK while our men are using riot guns. Government cannot even give us enough equipment or weapons to protect our people and communities,” the source added.

Describing the situation as a dangerous politicisation of national security, the source warned that the consequences were increasingly borne by ordinary citizens.

“That means the security matter has turned into politics in Nigeria. May God protect all our men wherever they enter,” the source prayed.
