Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has described the N8 billion intervention approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for victims of the Singer Market inferno as a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.

Governor Yusuf described the donation of N5 billion from the Federal Government and N3 billion from APC governors under the leadership of the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma as timely and compassionate.

He noted that it would go a long way in cushioning the devastating impact of the fire incident on affected traders and their families.

He commended the President for what he called a responsive and people-centred approach to governance, especially in times of national emergencies.

He also praised the APC governors for their solidarity and support, describing their contribution as a reflection of unity and shared responsibility in assisting citizens during difficult moments.

The governor assured that the funds would be transparently utilised for the rebuilding of affected shops and the provision of direct relief to genuine victims of the disaster.

He added that the Kano State Government would collaborate with relevant federal agencies, APC stakeholders and market associations to ensure proper and equitable disbursement of the funds.

Earlier the N8 billion intervention was announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during an on-the-spot assessment visit to Singer Market on Monday.

Shettima, who sympathised with victims of the inferno, disclosed that President Tinubu had approved the release of N5 billion as palliatives to support traders whose livelihoods were disrupted by the incident.

He further announced an additional N3 billion donation from APC governors, bringing the total intervention to N8 billion.

The Vice President stressed that the Federal Government would continue to stand with Kano State in difficult times, describing the state as strategic to national development and economic growth.
