Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Christians to dedicate the period of lent to prayer, reflection and self-examination.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja through his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio urged Christians to embrace humility and repentance while remembering the fragility of life.
“As we dust ourselves with ashes, let us remember our mortality and the need for humility and repentance,” he said. “May this season be a time for introspection, forgiveness and reconciliation, strengthening our bond with God and with one another,” he said.
The Senate president assured Nigerians that the legislators would continue to enact laws that foster unity, peace and understanding in the country.
On behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate and the 10th National Assembly, he said, “As Christians around the world observe Ash Wednesday, I extend warm greetings and blessings to all of you. May God bless and guide us all on this Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season.”
