The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has levied a substantial fine of N9 million and a three-point deduction against Kwara United Football Club following crowd violence during their Matchday 22 fixture against Rivers United on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Kwara State Stadium.
The sanctions stem from Kwara United’s failure to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas. This lapse led to the harassment and injury of match officials and Rivers United personnel by Kwara United supporters. The league also cited unsporting behavior that brought the game into disrepute.
Breakdown of Fines:
N2 million for inadequate security.
N1 million for failing to control supporters.
N2 million for assaulting match officials and Rivers United officials.
N1 million for unsporting behavior.
N1 million for holding officials hostage post-match.
N2 million in compensation for treatment and damages to officials.
In addition to the financial penalties, Kwara United will have three points and three goals deducted from their accrued totals. The club is also mandated to play its remaining home matches at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta and must identify and prosecute the supporters involved in the assaults.
Kwara United has 48 hours to appeal the sanctions.
