Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commissioned a new water treatment plant with the capacity to provide 500,000 litres per day water in Naka, the headquarters of Gwer-West local government area of the State, to improve access to potable water for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the local communities.

Represented by the deputy governor, Sam Ode, the governor emphasised the importance of the project in alleviating water scarcity issues faced by residents and IDPs in the area.

The newly installed water treatment plant was funded by the European Union (EU) through ECHO, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Benue State Government.

Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Ior Ikyereve, in a statement, said during the visit, the delegation which held an interactive session with displaced persons at the UBE camp, also witnessed the handover of 600 shelters at the new IDP camp in Naka.
