The Department of State Services (DSS) will, on February 25, arraign former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, over alleged cybercrime and breach of national security.
El-Rufai is scheduled to be arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
LEADERSHIP reports that on February 18, the DSS briefly took the former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister into custody and handed him over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after he had spent two nights in the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The development followed comments made by el-Rufai last Friday during an interview on PrimeTime, a current affairs show on Arise News Channel, where he alleged that “someone wiretapped” the phone of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA).
He claimed he was able to listen to the NSA directing security operatives to effect his arrest.
On Monday, the DSS filed a three-count charge against el-Rufai for allegedly intercepting the NSA’s telephone conversation.
According to the secret police, the alleged offence contravenes the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024, and the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
