Two armed robbers have been sentenced to death by hanging while seven others received life imprisonment for offences including rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, conspiracy and culpable homicide in Bauchi State.

The verdicts were delivered by the High Courts of Bauchi State while 51 criminal cases involving 64 defendants were adjudicated and concluded during the last quarter of 2025.

The offences prosecuted ranged from armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy, culpable homicide, rape, and fraud, among others.

The convictions were secured under relevant provisions of the Penal Code and the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as well as the Bauchi State Penal Code, 2022.

The two armed robbers sentenced to death are Muhammad Maina and Yakubu Adamu.

The courts held that overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution proved their involvement in violent robbery incidents across the state, warranting the maximum penalty under the law.

Seven defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of fine, they include Shehu Isa, Adamu Adamu (aka Nalele), Mohammed Bello, Kabiru Ahmed, Muhammad Jibrin (aka Al-Amin), Usman Bello (Maigamo), and Manu Umaru (aka Alhaji Manu). They were convicted for offences including rape, conspiracy, armed robbery, culpable homicide, and kidnapping.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the information officer of the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission, Saleh Umar, 11 individuals were also convicted for fraud-related offences and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment without the option of fine.

They include Abubakar Shehu, Yusuf Aliyu Alhassan, Miracle Chidi, Dominic Lazarus, James Myaulompwa, Lawus Zakka, Sadiq Dosumo, Jude Titus, Joseph Olamide Adesunmila, Koche Samuel, and Falour Odinaka.

Other convicts received various prison terms ranging from three months to ten years, with some given the option of fines ranging between N10,000 and N500,000, depending on the gravity of the offence.

The judgments were delivered after the courts found the defendants guilty beyond reasonable doubt at the conclusion of their trials.

In their rulings, according to the statement, the courts expressed concern over the persistent threat of kidnapping and violent crimes in Bauchi State, stressing that the sentences were intended to serve as a deterrent to criminal activities.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the Bauchi State Judiciary to uphold justice and support efforts by the state government to combat crime and enhance public safety.
