The immediate past Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm and former chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Julius Adamu, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as a credible and peaceful conduct of the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at Ward 008, Katampe Village Square, Adamu expressed satisfaction with the electoral process, noting that the commission demonstrated preparedness and professionalism.
“INEC has done well, and I can see that the atmosphere is peaceful,” he said. “There is no fracas, no argument. People are simply voting for the candidates of their choice.”
Adamu, who initially contested for council chairman under the PDP, revealed that he stepped down following consultations with party leaders, opting instead to support the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in his ward in the interest of unity and development.
“I was a candidate under the platform of PDP, but with consultation and advice from my leaders, I had to step down for the APC candidate in my ward,” he stated. “God has His way, and I believe stepping down is for the progress and development of the people of the Area Council.”
Reviewing the election process, Adamu noted the early arrival of electoral officials and materials in several polling units he monitored.
“In some of the polling units, officials and materials arrived as early as 6amand 6:30am,” he said. “With INEC’s new leadership, I believe the commission is ready for the task, and today’s coordination shows that.”
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the peaceful atmosphere throughout the exercise.
“There is nothing peace cannot give. Once the environment is calm, everything will be successful. I pray that the voting ends the same way it has begun.”
Party agents at various polling units also commended the electoral process.
Glory Victor Onuoha, Supervising Agent of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), described the polls as peaceful and credible.
“The election has been peaceful and credible so far, and I pray it continues this way,” she said.
Similarly, Ilesanmi Adegoke, an agent of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), praised INEC officials for their punctuality.
“Here at the Katampe Village Square (Chief’s Palace), the election has been peaceful and calm. Voting is ongoing, and we hope for a successful outcome today,” he remarked.
Voters across polling units in the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory turned out in significant numbers as stakeholders continue to closely monitor the process.
