Unilever Nigeria Plc has renovated and upgraded facilities at Local Government Primary School, Elero-Igbesa, in Ogun State, as part of its community development initiative.
The company, in partnership with GEP, handed over the refurbished facilities on February 18, 2026. The project included the renovation of classroom blocks, installation of modern sanitation facilities, and the provision of solar panels to support sustainable energy use within the school.
The upgraded classrooms were furnished and improved with better ventilation to enhance the learning environment for pupils. The intervention is aimed at improving safety, hygiene and overall comfort within the school.
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, who attended the event, described the project as supportive of the state government’s school infrastructure renewal agenda. He urged other corporate organisations to emulate the initiative.
The managing director of Unilever Nigeria Plc, Tobi Adeniyi, said the project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education and the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda. He noted that the company’s intervention focuses on creating an enabling learning environment for children through improved infrastructure and sanitation.
According to Adeniyi, the installation of new toilets, improved ventilation and solar-powered energy solutions is expected to support better attendance and academic performance among pupils.
The traditional ruler, Oloja-Ekun of Igbesaland, Ado-Odo Local Government, Oba Abdul-Azeez Akinde, commended the company for its contribution to education in the community, describing the project as impactful and beneficial to residents.
Head of Communications, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Unilever Nigeria Plc, Zainab Obagun, alongside GEP’s procurement manager, Tamara Vanndenbor, said the initiative was designed to provide pupils with a cleaner and more conducive learning environment.
The school’s headmistress, Yemisi Olugbile, expressed appreciation for the intervention, stating that the improved facilities would positively influence pupils’ performance and boost parents’ confidence.
