At least nine people have been confirmed dead following a violent attack on a relaxation spot in Doruwa Babuje community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday night, leaving the community in shock.
Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen stormed the relaxation spot, opening fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. Two other individuals sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital.
Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, described the attack as “tragic and devastating,” highlighting the deep impact on the community.
Captain Chinonso Oteh, spokesperson for the Mi,itary’s Operation Enduring Peace, said that troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call. He confirmed that investigations were ongoing, security has been reinforced in the area, and efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators.
However, residents remained on the edge as authorities continued their search and bolster security to prevent further violence.
