The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lauded Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State for constructing a state-of-the-art zonal office for the Board and a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in Maiduguri.

The centre, valued at over N1 billion, is expected to enhance the examination experience for candidates in the region.

LEADERSHIP reports that Governor Zulum had allocated land for the centre and directed the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) to issue a Certificate of Occupancy for the property. This move was aimed at bridging the gap in merit and catchment area quotas in federal government tertiary institutions meant for Borno people.

Speaking on Monday during the flag-off of the construction of the Zonal Office and CBT Centre sited along Maiduguri-Dikwa Toad in Maiduguri, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said the zonal office covers Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States, adding that the capacity of the computers in the CBT Centre will enable those who want to register for their JAMB in Borno to complete their registration within two days.

The JAMB Registrar added that the facilities, when completed, would have a Professional Registration Centre (PRC) where the students will visit to register and go into examination hall when they want to write examination.

He described the project as one of the best multi-center CBT falities in the country, thanking the governor for support.

“We pray God continues to guide you; you’re doing your best,” he said.

Continuing, Professor Oloyede said, “The centre will have 275 computers inside and 275 computers in the other section, which means at any given time, 500 students can write exam. It also means that JAMB will be able to clear 2000 students within two days with the facility.”

He expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts in education, saying it’s the kind of leadership the country needed.

“May God continue to empower you,” he added, amidst celebration of the governor’s contributions.

In his remarks before the flag-off, Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, said his administration decided to contribute its quota to education in the state, adding that now that JAMB was going digital, Borno has to catch up with that.

“I promised that in each of the senatorial zones of the state, we shall establish a CBT Centre. The zonal office will cost N667 million, while the CBT Centre will cost N330 million. The job will be completed very soon and government shall make all the payments,” Zulum concluded.
